Holiday Family Grief Workshop

For Children and Teens (Ages 6-18) and Their Caregivers

The holidays can be a particularly challenging time for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. This workshop provides a safe and supportive space for families to:

  • Acknowledge and express their grief

  • Learn coping skills for managing difficult emotions

  • Develop healthy ways to remember and honor their loved ones

  • Connect with others who are going through similar experiences

Workshop Activities

  • Group Discussions: Share experiences and feelings with others who understand.

  • Creative Expression: Use art, music, and writing to explore and express grief.

  • Mindfulness Practices: Learn techniques for managing stress and anxiety.

  • Holiday-Specific Activities: Create meaningful ways to remember and honor loved ones during the holidays.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is designed for families with children and teens (ages 6-18) who have experienced the death of a loved one during the past year. Caregivers are encouraged to attend with their children.

Facilitators

  • Sarah Titman, M.S.W. : An instructor in the Social Work Department at Winthrop University with a decade worth of direct practice experience working as a medical social worker in hospice bereavement counseling. Ms.Titman is very passionate about grief and loss education.

  • Winthrop Master of Social Work Students

We understand that the holidays can be a difficult time for grieving families. We hope this workshop will provide some support and comfort during this season. This workshop is a safe and confidential space. All participants are encouraged to share openly and honestly, but are not required to do so.
